Litwak & Partners expands in the region and opens offices in Lima (Peru)

In 2013, after two years of hard work since it was founded in 2011, Litwak & Partners definitely became an alternative to international law firms, particularly in the creation of investment funds and regulated companies providing financial service, setting up asset protection structures and providing advice on corporate finance transactions.

In order to provide a better service and satisfactorily meet the needs of a growing client portfolio, the Firm has substantially increased its staff and moved its headquarters to the WTC Freezone, one of the most modern, top of the line buildings currently in existence in Montevideo,

As a strategy to future growth, to be closer to its clients located in the Andean region and to finally consolidate itself as a leading provider of regional international legal services, in March 2014 the Firm opened a new office in Lima, Peru.

It is a known fact Peru’s economic activity has experienced a remarkable growth in the last years.

The investment fund industry has followed this trend, resulting in an increase in the number of clients, residing or operating in Peru and its nearby countries, such Ecuador or Colombia.

As ever, Litwak & Partners does not intend to compete with local law firms or businesses devoted to providing trust services, but to complete their professional services offer and to collaborate with those firms.

Jerry Feldman will be appointed as Partner in Peru.
One advantage offered by Litwak & Partners vis-a-vis its competitors is the understanding of the prevailing business culture in Latin America and its contacts throughout the region. Therefore, it was essential for the firm to appoint a local who would also have wide international experience and a full understanding of the services rendered by our firm.

That is why we chose Jerry Feldman, who has 20 years of experience in the banking and financial industry and has worked in senior positions for leading financial institutions including Citibank, BNP Paribas, Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse. Jerry holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Lima and an MBA from the Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management, United States.

Regarding this new challenge, Jerry said: “it is an honor for me to be part of this select group of professionals devoted to international legal services. Its economic development in the last fifteen years and a clear vision as part of the select emerging markets, turns Peru into a more professional market requiring more sophisticated services, particularly in the areas of practice in which Litwak & Partners specializes.  This project also entails an important challenge, as it is uncommon for an international law firm to set up offices in Peru. It has been rare, and those who did were with full-service firms. We will work hard to turn this challenge into a total success.”

Martín Litwak, the main partner at the firm, added: “it is a pleasure to open up our second office in Latin America and I am personally proud and happy to have Jerry as its head, who isn’t just an excellent professional, but also my friend. I have my hopes high on this office and on its contribution to the general growth of the firm. After months of planning, it’s time to go out and see how far we can get. I don’t think in impossibility. I think one of the main challenges that local firms (or companies rendering trust services) to toss aside their distrust and see us as allies or partners and, on the other hand, to explain what we do in a simple manner to potential clients and intermediaries who are not used to this kind of complex services and are new to, for example, succession and wealth planning.”
